[PRESS] OUEST-FRANCE – Brest Métropole deploys luminescent paint to secure night mobility
24 March 2021Brest. In Lambézellec, luminescent paint to secure pedestrians and bicycles
An experiment is currently being carried out in the Lambézellec district in Brest: the lanes reserved for cyclists and pedestrians are drawn with paint that shines at night.
How to better ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists at night? Perhaps by giving more visibility to the lanes reserved for them. It is in this sense that an experiment is currently being carried out in the Lambézellec district in Brest.
Luminescent paint, which shines after dark, has been used to materialize the cycle and pedestrian paths, as the elected Yohann Nédélec, vice-president of the Metropolis of Brest in charge of Mobilities, reports on Facebook.
Here is the photo of the bike path with the LuminoKrom marking taken in the early morning after 6am! The photoluminescence remains perfectly visible. Several years of research were necessary to obtain this performance of maintaining luminescence for 10 hours at night (class E luminance according to the international standard ISO 17398). LuminoKrom, find out more
Thanks to its luminescence property of + 10h, the LuminoKrom® marking allows cyclists and pedestrians to see horizontal signs at night, including in degraded situations (rain, fog). This luminescent beaconing ensures better orientation for users through the variety of facilities.
Applying LuminoKrom® luminescent paint to infrastructure is quick and easy. It can be performed by any professional applicator and does not require any specific equipment.
LuminoKrom lighting has now been deployed in France for more than 2 years. More than 30 municipalities have enhanced the visibility of their cycle paths with the LuminoKrom® photoluminescent marking, for example Annecy (74), Pessac (33), Leucate (66), Evreux (27), Aix en Provence (13) )… Find all of our achievements in the section: REFERENCES / Our Workshops
