Innovative markings to guide cyclists at night without artificial lighting

Greater visibility for safer night-time journeys

In February 2025, Liverpool City Council embarked on a project to improve the safety of soft mobility in urban areas. Under the project management of Lineway UK and the application developed by ADEPT, the Liverpool cycle path was equipped with LuminoKrom® photoluminescent markings.

Our innovation enables cyclists to find their way around effectively, reducing the risk of accidents and improving their comfort, particularly in areas with poor street lighting.

A sustainable and eco-responsible solution for cycling infrastructure

By storing daylight and releasing it for up to 10 hours at night, LuminoKrom® provides continuous visibility without consuming energy. This initiative is fully in line with Liverpool City Council's commitment to adopting sustainable, environmentally-friendly solutions.

By improving safety for cyclists without the need for artificial lighting, this project demonstrates a strong commitment to soft mobility and urban innovation.
