A first in France: a Landes road equipped with LuminoKrom® paint

Départementale 290, in Saint-Pandelon, has become the first French road to test LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint in real-life traffic conditions. This stretch of road, identified as particularly accident-prone, was selected by the French government to test this innovation developed by OliKrom in partnership with Eiffage. Visible for up to 10 hours and up to 80 meters away, the paint captures sunlight during the day and produces an autonomous luminous marking at night, enhancing user safety without the need for street lighting.

Focus on a full-scale experiment

The implementation of LuminoKrom® paint on 450 meters of the Départementale 29 road is described as a significant advance in night-time road safety. Previously used on cycle paths, this technology is being tested here for the first time on open roads. The experiment will run for three years, with driver behavior analyzed via cameras and speed readings. If the results are conclusive, this innovative solution could be extended to the entire French road network.
