[La Presse de la Manche] Photoluminescent paint tested on Cherbourg cycle path
In Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, LuminoKrom® applied to a cycle path to guide users at night
The town of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin is testing LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint on 700 meters of the Chemin de la Mare cycle path, between Boulevard des Flamands and the Collignon swimming pool. The markings, visible at night without the need for a power supply, are designed to guide cyclists and improve their safety on poorly lit or unlit roads. Initial feedback has been positive, even before full exposure to the sun, and the local authority is already looking into the possibility of extending the system to other sensitive areas of the region.
A sustainable, economical solution that respects biodiversity
This paint, developed by OliKrom®, captures light during the day and releases it for up to ten hours at night, while remaining weather-resistant. Arnaud Catherine, the local councillor in charge of mobility, describes the solution as "fifty times less expensive than public lighting", with zero running costs. The system could be extended to other areas, such as artisanal zones, roadside verges or low-speed neighborhoods. This alternative enhances night-time safety while limiting light pollution, a key factor in the preservation of biodiversity.
