French photoluminescent paint to guide pedestrians and cyclists at night

An innovation developed in Gironde by the OliKrom® company is arousing enthusiasm: a photoluminescent road paint capable of guiding users in the dark, without the need for electricity. Applied to roadways or bicycle paths, this paint captures natural or artificial light during the day, then releases it for over 10 hours at night. It is a concrete response to the challenges of road safety, energy efficiency and the fight against light pollution. Already deployed in over 80 local authorities in France, the solution is also being expanded internationally.

Focus on OliKrom's LuminoKrom® technology

LuminoKrom® technology is described as a major advance in night-time mobility. Visible up to 80 meters even without headlights, this luminous marking considerably improves visibility for users, particularly on foot or by bike. Unlike previous phosphorescent paints, which were limited to indoor use, this patented innovation works outdoors, is weather-resistant and easy to apply. It offers a cost-effective alternative to street lighting (4,000€ per km compared with 200,000€ to 400,000€ for conventional lighting), and cuts environmental impact by a factor of 4 compared with current solar solutions. It is also currently being deployed for use at sea, in the humanitarian and civil protection sectors.
