Saint-Jean-le-Vieux relies on LuminoKrom® to make a main road safer

The commune of Saint-Jean-le-Vieux (Ain department) was singled out for its initiative to improve road safety using LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint. Installed over the past three months on a busy stretch of unlit road, the paint captures daylight and returns it at night in the form of a bright green luminous marking, visible from afar. This eco-friendly signage enables motorists to anticipate bends and adapt their behavior, even in conditions of reduced visibility. The testimonials we have received point to a better perception of the road ahead, and a more cautious driving style. In an area where measured speeds can reach 120 to 130 km/h, this innovative solution provides a concrete, simple and effective response to safety issues, without the need for energy-hungry street lighting.

An efficient, environmentally-friendly system praised by users and elected representatives

However, the effects of this type of arrangement are measured: an average speed reduction of up to 20%, and a 50% increase in visibility for pedestrians and cyclists. Satisfied with the results, the mayor of Saint-Jean-le-Vieux is already planning to extend the scheme to other areas of the commune next spring. This experiment is part of a wider initiative to rethink roadway equipment, reconciling safety, energy savings and minimal ecological impact. With LuminoKrom®, the French technology developed by Olikrom once again confirms its ability to meet the expectations of local authorities, and to integrate into rural and suburban areas in search of effective, sustainable solutions.
