What is a phosphorescent product and how does it work?
A phosphorescent product is a solution capable of absorbing light (natural or artificial) and then gradually releasing it in the dark. This phenomenon, known as photoluminescence, is based on technical pigments incorporated into the formulation.
Unlike an electrical device, brightness is achieved without an energy source: the product recharges indefinitely when exposed to light. The duration and intensity of the brightness depend on the quality of the pigments and the technology used.
What types of photoluminescent products are available, and what are they used for?
There are several types of phosphorescent products: paints, adhesives, sprays, coatings, etc.
- Aerosols allow for quick and localised application, ideal for spot markings.
- Photoluminescent adhesives are perfect for smooth surfaces or surfaces that are not compatible with paint.
- Coatings provide uniform coverage on more technical areas.
These products are used for signage, secure pathways, artistic enhancement and even securing professional environments.
Can a phosphorescent product be used outdoors?
Yes, provided that it is designed to withstand outdoor conditions. Photoluminescent products suitable for outdoor use must be resistant to UV rays, humidity, temperature variations and, in some cases, abrasion.
In our range, certain solutions, such as coatings, aerosol sprays and certain adhesives, are specifically developed to maintain their luminous performance despite prolonged exposure to the elements.
How long does a phosphorescent product glow in the dark?
The duration of luminescence varies depending on the technology used. High-performance products (Class G) can remain visible throughout the night after a full charge, generally providing more than 10 hours of decreasing brightness.
LuminoKrom® products and derivatives are designed to ensure visibility for several hours, even in low light conditions.
