Aire de Chazey A42, APRR deploys LuminoKrom® luminescent paint
Between Lyon and Ambérieu-en-Bugey on the A42 Chazey area, APRR deploys the LuminoKrom® Photoluminescent paint
APRR is deploying LuminoKrom luminescent paint on the Chazey area on the A42 between Lyon and Ambérieu-en-Bugey to enhance the visibility and safety of pedestrian movements at night. The site was carried out by teams from the Eiffage - AER Group. Luminescent paint has been applied to the concrete edges to ensure pedestrian access at night. Truck parking space marking was also carried out to promote parking (in particular maneuvering in reverse) at night.
This LuminoKrom photoluminescent paint was designed as part of ADEME's "Road to the Future" program to create the infrastructures of tomorrow: safer, more economical, more eco-sustainable. LuminoKrom® luminous paint harnesses renewable energy from solar radiation. An inexhaustible source of energy, clean and without impact on greenhouse gases.
LuminoKrom® paint naturally captures sunlight during the day and restores it as luminosity all night long. Thus, without any consumption of electricity or CO2 emissions, dangerous areas such as baffles, roundabouts, ... The LuminoKrom marking was labeled by the Roads and Streets Innovation Committee in 2019 and nominated for the Safety Innovation Prize Road in 2020.
A project to improve night-time safety for pedestrians
In June 2020, the Autoroutes Paris-Rhin-Rhône (APRR) group undertook an innovative initiative to improve pedestrian safety at the Chazey rest area, located on the A42 freeway between Lyon and Ambérieu-en-Bugey. The aim of the project was to improve night-time visibility of pedestrian walkways and parking areas, particularly in areas without street lighting. To achieve this, LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint was applied to the concrete kerbs of pedestrian walkways and to the markings of truck parking spaces, making night-time manoeuvring easier. The work was carried out by teams from the Eiffage - AER Group.
The benefits of LuminoKrom®: an eco-responsible and efficient solution
The use of LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint offers visibility for up to 10 hours in the dark, without requiring a power supply or generating CO₂ emissions. This innovative technology improves user safety by making critical areas more visible at night, while reducing light pollution. What's more, LuminoKrom® is quick and easy to apply, comparable to conventional road paint, making it a cost-effective solution for infrastructure managers wishing to secure their facilities sustainably.
