Lighted markings to improve safety in poorly lit areas

Crosswalks and guided pathways to organize the road network

In September 2025, the city of Krusevac, Serbia, implemented the LuminoKrom® solution to improve safety on a rural road. The project involved applying photoluminescent markings to crosswalks and road guidance elements. In low-light or unlit environments, these markings help organize traffic flow and improve road visibility for all users. This project was carried out with support from GIZ, and distribution was handled by our local partner, BBA International

A standalone solution to ensure the safety of users in rural areas

This project perfectly illustrates the value of LuminoKrom® for road infrastructure in rural areas, where street lighting is often limited or even nonexistent. By emitting light accumulated during the day, the photoluminescent paint makes crosswalks and traffic lanes visible as soon as night falls. It thus significantly improves road visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, reducing the risk of accidents in areas where extra caution is required.

Beyond safety, this solution also addresses major economic and environmental challenges. Since it requires no power supply, it eliminates the need for costly lighting infrastructure while reducing energy consumption and maintenance. LuminoKrom® thus stands out as a sustainable and effective alternative for local governments seeking to improve road safety without increasing their investment costs. Supported by the city of Krusevac and GIZ, this project demonstrates the technology’s ability to adapt to diverse contexts, providing a concrete solution to nighttime visibility challenges in rural areas.
