A photoluminescent device integrated into fire safety systems

A real-world trial in a university lecture hall

In July 2025, Paris Dauphine PSL University, located at Place du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny in Paris (16th arrondissement), incorporated LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint into the evacuation system of one of its lecture halls. As part of maintenance operations led by YA Entremise, this test focused on marking the nosings of stair treads in circulation areas as well as on signage for emergency exits. Carried out by E2S using a water-based paint in the color Vert Amande, this application aims to improve the visibility of pathways in the event of a power outage

Enhance user safety in the event of a power failure

The installation of LuminoKrom® in a public building such as Paris Dauphine University is part of a strategy to enhance evacuation safety. In an emergency, particularly during a power outage or disaster, the visibility of escape routes becomes a critical factor in effectively guiding occupants to emergency exits. Thanks to its ability to emit stored light, the photoluminescent paint instantly highlights steps and the directions to follow, even in total darkness.

This solution complements existing regulatory requirements, such as self-contained emergency lighting units, by providing essential visual redundancy. It thus helps to facilitate movement, limit the risk of falls on stairs, and reduce panic. In its water-based form, LuminoKrom® also meets the requirements for indoor environments in terms of application and health and safety. This pilot project demonstrates the technology’s suitability for complex, high-traffic buildings, where the reliability of evacuation systems is a major concern.

  • Project Management: Université Paris Dauphine
  • Type of project: YA Entremise is responsible for the annual maintenance of more than 1,300 self-contained emergency lighting units, 500 fire extinguishers, and the natural smoke control systems at Paris Dauphine PSL University. Emergency response and evacuation plans have also been updated. LuminoKrom® was recently tested and implemented in the evacuation system of a lecture hall, specifically on the stair treads of the circulation staircase and the emergency exit signage. The product used is LuminoKrom® water-based paint in the color Almond Green.
