[Midi Libre] Millau experiments with road paint that glows in the dark for better safety
In Millau, LuminoKrom® paint tested in two areas without street lighting
The town of Millau, in the Aveyron region, is experimenting with LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint on two sites with no street lighting: boulevard Marty, near the shooting range, and avenue de l'Aigoual, near the Saint-Lambert campsite. The aim: to guide pedestrians and cyclists in the dark, without the need for electricity. Developed by Gironde-based OliKrom®, this technology captures light during the day and releases it at night for over ten hours. Discreet, ecological and economical, it provides an effective way to mark out paths without light pollution.
In an article from Midi Libre, focus on an innovative solution for night-time mobility
Local councillors emphasize the potential of LuminoKrom® as an alternative to conventional lighting. This photoluminescent beaconing system is in line with the municipality's desire to reduce infrastructure costs while enhancing user safety. The system requires no special maintenance, and can be used on secondary roads, intercity roads and sensitive areas. Already installed at over 80 sites in France, this patented paint could eventually be approved for wider use on roads, in addition to the supervised experiments being carried out in the Landes region.
