[Le Moniteur] Landes: luminescent paint makes a departmental road safer
In the Landes region, the RD 29 is equipped with LuminoKrom® for enhanced night-time safety
The Landes département council has launched an innovative experiment on the RD 29 between Dax and Saint-Pandelon, using LuminoKrom® photoluminescent paint. Developed by the Gironde-based company OliKrom®, this paint captures natural light or light from headlights, and returns it at night, without the need for a power supply. A 450-meter section was marked with an almond-green tint, preceded by 150 meters of conventional white paint for comparison. The aim: to improve user safety on this notoriously dangerous stretch of road.
A supervised experiment monitored for three years
The LuminoKrom® system is presented as a promising technical solution for roadways with little or no lighting. The article specifies that the experiment on the RD 29 will be rigorously monitored over three years by Eiffage Infrastructures. This technical follow-up will enable us to validate the paint's performance over time (visibility, resistance, effectiveness) and to envisage homologation with a view to extending it to other roads in France. The project illustrates a growing desire to combine road safety and energy efficiency.
