At Beaupréau-en-Mauges, photoluminescent paint is tested under real-life conditions

The commune of Beaupréau-en-Mauges is currently experimenting with photoluminescent road paint in the Villedieu-la-Blouère district. The device, based on LuminoKrom® technology, captures daylight and releases it at night without the need for electricity. It is being tested on several roads, including the Rue du Stade and two roundabouts, which are completely switched off between sunset and sunrise. The aim is to assess whether this innovative marking system can be a partial substitute for conventional street lighting, in a context of energy conservation and safe mobility.

A two-year supervised test to measure the effectiveness of the LuminoKrom® device

A two-year test phase has been launched, supervised by Céréma and the Syndicat intercommunal d'énergie du Maine-et-Loire. The scheme is also supported by the French Ministry of Ecological Transition. To measure its effectiveness, the lighting on several streets has been adjusted: some roads have been completely switched off at night, and street lamps are still in operation at the beginning and end of the evening to accompany schoolchildren's journeys. An online questionnaire is available for users to gather their feedback. If the results are deemed satisfactory, LuminoKrom® technology could be extended nationwide.
